Hingham Square Needlepoint Owner Joan Barrett has her stitch group to thank for a renewed interest in this fabulous art form. She learned, as so many of us have, from her Mom and stitched for many years before taking a hiatus. Returning to needlepoint opened a door to a changed industry where everything is alive with color, creativity and inspiration. The possibilities are endless!
With so many shops closing, Joan decided the South Shore of Boston needed a presence in the industry. Wanting the space to be a warm and inviting place for ALL stitchers to feel welcome and at home was very important. Our shop in downtown historic Hingham offers just that. With large picture windows overlooking the town square, you can see all the town has to offer; choose a spot for lunch, a number of shops to browse through and just a short walk to the harbor with shops and restaurants along the way. It’s all within reach so stop by for a visit - we’d love to have you.
Marcia lives in Hingham with her husband and 3 children; loves to sail and ski; teaches pre-school and helps out here as well as teaching some of our classes. Marcia has been stitching since she was a child; as an accomplished stitcher she has a fabulous eye for stitches, threads, beads and ribbon. Marcia always has one or two classes on the schedule, as well as her Thursday stitch-n-chats. Be certain to check the calendar and email notices for the latest. Marcia will be happy to put together a stitch guide upon request. If you have a chance to take a class with Marcia you will come away knowing many news stitches and techniques, as well as being inspired by new ideas.
Linda lives in Hingham with her husband, 2 sons and always a Bernese Mountain dog at her side. Linda has a passion for the interesting and artistic. Linda has been stitching since she was a teenager and is currently working on a spectacular Melissa Shirley “floral fish” canvas. Keep checking the website for the ongoing progress photos and then the completed piece. Linda plans on framing it!! It truly is a work of art with so many different stitching techniques - there’s just too many to list. Linda does most of our girls classes with a drop-in on Friday afternoons at 3:30 for all levels. The girls just love her!!! They have been stitching some wonderful projects for themselves and others. The young girls are the future of the needlepoint industry so we need to get them stitching and Linda does just that!!
Sally has been teaching with us for a few months now and brings a wonderful sense of creativity to each of her classes. Sally started her own line of needlepoint canvases a couple of years ago and has been a vendor at the national shows since last year. When not designing and painting needlepoint canvases, Sally applies her artistic talent to her landscape design business which has inspired many of her needlepoint designs!! Eggplant, tomatoes, squash and kiwis are just a sampling!!
